Musings again...december 29

Hello everyone... (peers around curiously...)

Well, I've had another extraordinarily exhausting day, which consisted primarily of some lazy reposing in the sun and messing about on a friend's jetski. :) Ha ha. I'm slightly browner than when I woke up this morning, and my fitness is deteriorating rapidly. Eh bien, You win some, you lose some.

Tomorrow is work (puke) and then the cinema (perhaps). Can anyone offer a recommendation? Everything that's out at the moment is supposed to be good, yet I don't know if there's really anything I want to see. Atonement has Keira Knightley, but apart from that, it sounds a bit too mumsy for my liking. I did start reading Northern Lights in my youth as a natural progression from Harry Potter, but it never really resonated. Thus the idea of watching The Golden Compass is again not entirely thrilling. Enchanted is definitely not my cup of tea, The Darjeeling Limited has received very mixed reports (but I do have the queasy thought that if Owen Wilson attempted suicide before shooting, it must've been bad.) No Country For Old Men is meant to be terrific, but a dark movie about a terrifying serial killer doesn't exactly make for a pleasant night out at the cinema. Maybe I should just reject the rest of the family, plonk at home and watch the Little Miss Sunshine and Fawlty Towers DVDs that fell under the tree last Tuesday.

There also remains the lingering problem of university fees. A second job or even deferral is looking likely. It seems awfully unfair that whilst 99.75 is damned good and lovely, it still doesn't get you anywhere in the way of bursaries. I think I'm going to have to pretend I am of indigenous descent, otherwise our family may be bankrupt by this time next year.

Parov Stelar's "On My Way Now" is currently on high rotation on my forty-gig brick of an iPod. Everybody vote for it on the Triple J Hottest 100....

Speaking of the Hottest 100...we can vote on January 1. At the moment, my top 10 is looking something like this:

1) Silverchair - Straight Lines
2) Feist - 1234
3) JBT - Good Excuse
4) Parov Stelar - On My Way Now
5) Justice - D.A.N.C.E
6) Dizzee Rascal & Lily Allen - Wanna Be
7) Josh Pyke - Forever Song
8) Calvin Harris - Acceptable In The 80s
9) Midnight Juggernauts - Road To Recovery
10) Soko - I'll Kill Her

but it is prone to change. Unfortunately, I have to choose from a list. Why on earth did they shortlist six Missy Higgins songs, but miss out the best one of the lot... Where I Stood?? Are Sneaky Sound System not indie enough, or were their songs released last year? I'm thinking it's a combination of the two. Gotye's Hearts A Mess remix is also not listed....oh well, I suppose the original was something like number eight last year. :(

I probably won't vote for Straight Lines either, simply because it already has the title in the bag and I might as well vote for something else rather than let Silverchair blitz it.

Anyway, I'm hoping for a damned good list because the Hottest 100 CD is one thing I consider a must-buy annually.

Comment (if you're there) with your own top 10.

;) peace, love, blood, sugar, sex, magic.

Musings...december 28

Well, here are some things that crossed my mind today...

I got very angry when I learnt about what happened in Pakistan this morning. Benazir Bhutto being assassinated is pretty much another nail in the coffin for Pakistani democracy...but then again, I wouldn't want to write too much about this...I might get killed by Islamic extremists! (Or maybe I'll be silenced by the Musharaf regime...)

Then I went to the Boxing Day Test and Australia kept on keeping on, being dominant and boring as usual, whilst Kumbly, Gangles and their gang of incompetent fielders flailed around, letting balls go for four and what not. As much as I love seeing Australia wallop teams by an innings and a million runs, it would be a pleasant change to see an actual contest from time to time. It was stinking hot in Melbourne today and I was extremely glad I had a seat in the shade, although I did have to dress well (being in the MCC) and so I wore jeans. A very BAAAD idea. (Oh well, even geniuses make bad choices sometimes.)

Hmm...what else happened today...

Oh, I spent more time on the Natalie Gauci forum. (Natalie Gauci = one of the few decent people ever to be on an Idol competition). I practically live there nowadays. If perchance there is someone out there reading, join the forum and join the fun.

I listened to the 3am remix of Gotye's "Hearts A Mess" again. It is quickly becoming one of my very favouritest songs.

I ate Weetbix for breakfast, a sandwich for lunch, fish for dinner...

OK, now I'm boring you.

Hopefully in the New Year, I'll have something a bit more enthralling for all you readers (yes, all five of you!) to devour.

;) peace

Hello World

Ground Control to Major Tom...hello....

Hi, my name is...well, I'm not going to tell you that. For now, it's Mr Melodicus (something alliterative that I came up with myself, rather wonderful, no?).

I'm seventeen, I've finished high school, I'm a guy, and I'm Australian. For now, that's all you need to know.

Here, I'll be posting thoughts...on stuff. My musings, basically, on Life, The Universe, and Everything!

I guess I'm a bit of a nerd, so I'll be wordy (as nerds are). But I'm not really into computer games...music, films, TV and sport beckon much more enticingly to me.

So I guess I'll be writing about stuff I discover, as well as anything pressing in my life, at any particular point in time...

I doubt anyone will read, but if you are, if there's another lonely soul out there reading my voice, then add a comment to my posts! It will feel very gratifying to know someone's reading.

Anyway, for now, I'm off to edit and beautify this place as best I can...which won't be very much. (This is my first foray into blogging, so I'm not much with page layouts).

Peace, love, Happy Unbirthday or Happy Birthday, whatever the case may be, and sleep well.

:D
